(Showmedo is undergoing major changes. To report any problems viewing the videos please email us and include browser and OS specifics. Cheers - Kyran.)

This 10 minute demo shows how easy it is to install Ruby, Rails, Apache, Mongrel, Subversion, and MySQL on an Ubuntu server. Capistrano and the deprec gem (deployment recipes) are used to automate the installation process with only a few commands. It finishes with a deployment of a Rails app to the newly built server!

The demo is done with Parallels on a Mac, but would work with any machine that can boot from the Ubuntu 6.06 Live CD.

great tutorial -

I'm looking to do my own deployment to a remote server and want to know about capistrano and I didn't even know deprec existed, and that looks extremely useful.

Your tutorial has shown that this can be accomplished very quickly. I think I'll need to watch it again a couple of times to ensure I completely got everything, but please keep up the good work!

Would like to see less on installing Ubuntu and more on installing Ruby.

Thanks, that's a good video, you'll get your share of the gifts as well...and I look forward to more videos of alike...cool.

Very helpful! Thanks! Can we get more?

muy bueno, me ayudo a entender como correr mi aplicación en un servidor, remoto

thanks from México

I've notified the author of deprec and we'll see what we can do to fix it.

Don't bother trying to reproduce this in Windows at this time. You will get an error on the "cap deprec_setup" step where it will fail due to a problem in Net::SFTP.

Hi Geoffrey. I'll concur with the authors of the other comments - this is a very clear video and it shows very nicely how to deploy a full Rails stack - great stuff!

Good luck with Peepcode and I hope you'll release more free Ruby videos.

Cheers,

Ian.

wow... nice. the main hangup that i've had with rails has been trying to find out the best way to deploy. this answers that question. thanks man!

This was very educational for me.

I will try this at once.

Kudos and Thanks for Geoffrey
