The introduction is great

Good intro, simple and precise. The only detail I noticed is the author's tone of voice is a little low.

thank you, very easy to find, follow and learn from

Hi anon. Yes, the commenting (and other parts of the site) would be nicer if they were AJAXified. That's something we'd like to look at, though for now our priority is definitely to keep producing useful new series for you all.

Don't forget about our Google Group:

if you'd like to talk to our main authors and us, especially if you have other suggestions.

I found interrupting the video to request feedback before I have completed the video very annoying. I only have a 64K line thus making it a pain to view the videos in the first place.

Can you re-look at the policy/rules in place to make the experience less distracting?

Other than that, great work!

Hi Anon. You need to Subscribe to get access - we no longer sell the videos individually. You can see full details here:

You are welcome to buy the minimum subscription which is 3 months, then 'cancel' it at PayPal so it doesn't bill in 3 months time, you'll obviously get the full 3 months worth of access here in ShowMeDo. You'll have access to 2 full series and a 3rd which I'm publishing at the moment, then all the rest that I publish over the coming months (probably 5 more series).

I would like to buy your video on Python newbies on xp, can I deposit the money in your account. I live in Australia

I had 3 requirements in mind when decided to look for a Python tutorial\course. I wanted the tutorial to be:

1. Professional in content and implementation, high level and clear.

2. Fast, I wanted to dive into Python as quickly as possible (I have limited time).

3. Cheap (or at least affordable), since I do it on my own expense taking advantage of having a bit of time between jobs.

Having completed this series I am glad to say that it is certainly meets all my requirements and above!

Thank you Ian for a great course and I certainly going to continue my Python studies with your other series: "Python 101 - easygui and csv".

Fair point, I do speak quite quickly in this video. Noted...

4. anonymous Wed, 22 Aug 2007 10:59

Slow down your speech-rate. At 185 WPM and a slight accent, you have your students constantly backing up (on or more times) to answer the question, "What did he say?".

Note title change - previously this series was known as 'Python Newbies on XP' and now it is called 'Python Development on XP'.

The 'newbies' in the title was misleading, hence the change.

Ian (author).

Hi Paul, much obliged for the comment :-)

I hadn't realised that I didn't have a comment yet (until yours) on this episode - I only posted this Overview episode a couple of weeks back but the Series went live several months back. Double-thanks in that case!

I have just completed the series and I think it is a great (and quick) way of getting comfortable with a workding python development environment.

As an experienced programmer I am very comfortable with reading reference books for syntax/grammer - this series really scores on showing how to put that information to work on a practical basis.

Showmedo is a peer-produced video-tutorials and screencasts site for free and open-source software (FOSS)- with the exception of some club videos, the large majority are free to watch and download.

Educating the Open-source Community With Showmedo

Although as important as the software it supports, education and documentation are relatively neglected in the Open-source world. Coders love to code, and explaining how best to use or improve the software tends to be deferred or even sidelined.

At Showmedo we believe the community can play a vital role here and also say thanks for the tools and software that make our lives easier. If you have a piece of software you love or a programming langugage you are enthusiastic about, why not make a screencast showing others how to use it? All the stuff you wish you'd been told, the tips, tricks, insights that would have saved you time and frustration.

Screencasting is easier than you think, and we're happy to help you. You can emailus for advice or just use some of the how-to screencasts on the site. This screencasting learning-pathis a good place to start.

Kudos and Thanks for Ian
