Educating the Open-source Community With Showmedo

Although as important as the software it supports, education and documentation are relatively neglected in the Open-source world. Coders love to code, and explaining how best to use or improve the software tends to be deferred or even sidelined.

At Showmedo we believe the community can play a vital role here and also say thanks for the tools and software that make our lives easier. If you have a piece of software you love or a programming langugage you are enthusiastic about, why not make a screencast showing others how to use it? All the stuff you wish you'd been told, the tips, tricks, insights that would have saved you time and frustration.

Screencasting is easier than you think, and we're happy to help you. You can email us for advice or just use some of the how-to screencasts on the site. This screencasting learning-path is a good place to start.

For the last part in this series John demonstrates using a MouseWheelListener to allow the user to zoom in and out of the Mandelbrot fractal with a flick of the mouse wheel using the newly-defined 'zoom' method.

Good efforts! Lack of detailed explanation of the code. Try to improve on detailed explanation of the functions, methods, packages used, their usage etc. This will enhance their value

Its was a great big help. I had the eclipse based flex builder Ide. I had just downloaded java plug in. I had to do a big deal of research to do that. And then I was worried the the looks of the environment would be different. Now that I've seen this I'm relieved. I love the video tutorials. When you're learning something new its great to have things easy and laid out for you. otherwise its a put off. continue the good work, showmedo!
