[1639] The structure of arguments passed to Unix commands (1/2)

in series: Introduction to Unix

video tutorial by Tim Bower

(Showmedo is undergoing major changes. To report any problems viewing the videos please email us and include browser and OS specifics. Cheers - Kyran.)

We review the three types of command line arguments passed to Unix commands and how they are used. These are:

  1. Command options
  2. option arguments
  3. command arguments

Along the way, we introduce the man and ls commands, which are two of the most commonly used Unix commands.

If the Unix / Linux command line confuses you, this video is a good starting point on learning how to use this powerful system.

This is the first video that I have watched. The video moves very quick for a person trying to learn the command line. But the great thing about a video lesson is you can watch it over and over.

Thanks for your time,

Steve
