3 - The Palette in Boa Constructor [ID:1040] (3/9)

in series: Introduction to Boa Constructor

video tutorial by cmpython, added 02/09

(Showmedo is undergoing major changes. To report any problems viewing the videos please email us and include browser and OS specifics. Cheers - Kyran.)

This video shows the various options available from clicking on the Palette, including a large number of wxPython widgets as well as help books.

The Palette allows you to select widgets to lay out in a Designer session, and also acts as the "main" frame of Boa, in that, if you close it, you exit Boa Constructor (unless you hide it from within The Editor).

Continues to be good

clear and easy to follow. Perhaps slightly fast, but that is what the pause is for.

I love this ShowMeDo! Great idea, and whoever did this one on Boa Constructor understands exactly how to demo the important stuff. Thanks!

Thanks so much for your Boa Constructor videos, I was lost trying to figure out how to play with it until I came across them. Excellent work!

OK. I wasn't clear on whether the palette always generated code or not ...

Nice survey of the various pallettes. I had already closed the editor on myself a couple of times. Nice to know how to reopen it.

Ah, not that informative, just went through the names there!

Something more descriptive might have helped.

Great speaker. Very articulate. Nice quick overview of a few features.

Somewhat disappointed with the video, in that it only told me what I could read just by holding the cursor and reading the tool tips. What I was hoping to see was a discussion of the differences between the widgets. For example, I have used Visual Basic and don't recognise the term "Choice Box". I want to use a multiple column list box, and cannot recognise it from the video or even other Help info. The best help guides say what something does, and why I might want to use it. It's a pity because Python is very good, and Boa also looks excellent. There seems to be no halfway house for Help between the professional programmer and the complete novice.

Anonymous, #10: Muchas gracias! Me gustaria hacer un serie de videos en Español. Quizas alguno dia--necesito la práctica! Saludos.

Great video.. explains simple things but which are very useful and save time

Showmedo is a peer-produced video-tutorials and screencasts site for free and open-source software (FOSS)- with the exception of some club videos, the large majority are free to watch and download.

Educating the Open-source Community With Showmedo

Although as important as the software it supports, education and documentation are relatively neglected in the Open-source world. Coders love to code, and explaining how best to use or improve the software tends to be deferred or even sidelined.

At Showmedo we believe the community can play a vital role here and also say thanks for the tools and software that make our lives easier. If you have a piece of software you love or a programming langugage you are enthusiastic about, why not make a screencast showing others how to use it? All the stuff you wish you'd been told, the tips, tricks, insights that would have saved you time and frustration.

Screencasting is easier than you think, and we're happy to help you. You can emailus for advice or just use some of the how-to screencasts on the site. This screencasting learning-pathis a good place to start.

Kudos and Thanks for cmpython
