Double-buffering is a technique used to minimise flicker on the screen, by drawing to an offscreen buffer and copying the buffer to the screen in one operation. John demonstrates this technique to create a double buffered Java Applet.

On to the next video, I wanted to thank you for making it easy for us beginners in Eclipse and Java (coming from .Net/C# world). I paused many times to keep up with you, but learned a lot. Still don't know the difference between double buffering and it's alternative, but I've never done anything involving dynamically updating a screen before!
