[006] How to Download IPython the Popular Python Shell (2/4)

in series: Python Development with IPython

video tutorial by Ian Ozsvald

(Showmedo is undergoing major changes. To report any problems viewing the videos please email us and include browser and OS specifics. Cheers - Kyran.)

IPython provides a far more powerful alternative to the standard Python interpreter, incorporating features such as string-completion, code-line macros and a rich history. We are great fans of this free piece of software and have found it to enhance the Python coding experience.

hi ian, gav here, hope you're going well.. installing iPython at the moment... seems like this vid is out of date... e.g. python 2.6 includes ctypes and 3.0 doesn't support ipython at all yet?

Verey good

Thanks you Ian. I used the exe and also extracted the zip of the same version, which resulted in a map with a different name. But herein at least was the setup.py, which was missing in the exe install. However, I sent an email to ipython.scipy. Maybe the problem is as trivial as that Windows Me cannot get a GUI of ipython? I am curious. Again, thank you.

Hi Col. I can't say I've ever had any trouble installing ipython over the years, I'm guessing you've just used the .exe from here?

http://ipython.scipy.org/dist/

I'd suggest you go visit the IPython forums, Fernando and team and very helpful, they'll know much more about any installation oddities than I will.

Cheers,

Ian.

Hi Ian. I cannot make ipython workable. Downloaded, installed, installed required programs, tried easyinstall. Made the path contents right. The only thing I managed to do, was seeing in the python scripts map a file ipthon, renamed this to ipython.py et voila, I can run a dos version. Could you be so nice as to put the necessary steps in plain high level human language? Or have I missed the whole issue. Thanks!

Any Vedio Stuff on Django?. Its really a rokin' pies of frame work. Some one can work a showmedo ?!
